Category: 50 Years of Reflections

For my 50th birthday, I wanted to write about my favorite 50 memories. I tried to post one each day or 50 days, however, we took a 3-week trip to Europe and I was unable to keep up with my writing; good reason! I played catch-up when we got back, and that said, I had a list of all the memories I planned to write about, I just wasn’t able to do them in the order that I planned.

The House Fire, 1994

Most of the time in life, we only talk about the good and happy memories.  The painful ones, we’d rather stick in the back of the closet or the corner of the basement and never speak of them again. This is one that I have not talked about or mentioned in years; not that I have forgotten, but as time went… Read more →

The Most Romantic Evening

The day was September 23rd 2013. I knew a formal proposal day was coming, I just didn’t know when. We knew we were getting married, but we didn’t have the rings yet. Things moved so quickly, there was barely time to breathe, let alone worry about rings. We had planned to get married on October 1st in Arizona, while also… Read more →

I Won a New Car For a Year

On May 3rd, 1995, my ex-husband and I had gone to test drive a truck at Liberty Chevrolet in Johnstown, OH. What we didn’t know was that the salesman had entered us into a drawing to win a one year lease on a Chrysler Lebaron convertible.  A few days later, I got a phone call telling me that our name had been… Read more →

My First Boston Marathon…An Unexpected Ending

If there’s one thing that I never expected to witness in my life, it would be an act of terror.  I certainly didn’t expect to witness such an act after I crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon in 2013.  What a tangled, twisted, emotional day that was and for so many reasons.  I was having a hard enough time… Read more →

My Lessons in Marathon Running Manifesto

I composed this race day Manifesto on May 8, 2011 after another one of my sub 4:00 marathon attempts.  Little did I know that the following year, not only would I run under four hours, but that I would shatter it with a 3:42 marathon.  I decided I needed to get out of my head and make some changes to… Read more →

My Grandma Mary

I want to talk a little bit about my memories of my favorite grandmother…the one who spent countless weeks with me every summer, the one who never missed a holiday or family event, the one who was always proud to show us off to her friends.  My favorite memory is how she gave me the chance to learn how to… Read more →

The Birth of My First Grandchild

On November 22, 2015, I got to witness the labor and birth of my grandson, Colt.  The kids live in Maryland, a six-hour drive from me.. They had asked me to be present for the labor and delivery and of course, being that this is my area of expertise and my passion, I totally wanted to be there as well, not only… Read more →

I Tried Modeling

Circa 2000 I agreed to do a modeling shoot for a Columbus area modeling and portfolio photographer. My son Alex was doing some modeling for a local department store’s flier during this time so I figured, why the not?  Nothing much came out of my portfolio because they wanted a large sum of money (from me) to get my pictures “out… Read more →

My Life Lessons

A few years back during my birthday month, I spent a good bit of time reflecting upon my 47 years of life and the many things that I’ve learned. Each day that November of 2013, I wrote down what was in my head; some serious, some sad, some funny, sort of what I’m doing now with my 50 Memories Till… Read more →

Kid Comics Part #1

The date of this fun memory was March 10, 2009. I gave my kids this list of questions (from one of those Facebook games) and asked them to answer them honestly about me. Their responses were hilarious (I left the spelling uncorrected, so it’s just the way they wrote it). 7+ years later, they are still make me laugh and… Read more →
